Mandate of Division of Biochemistry & Toxicology at NCDC, Delhi includes:


  1. Technical support to NIDDCP and NPPCF

Details of Divisional Activities:


  • A project on “Screening of NCDC officers/officials for thyroid disease, in view of higher risk for acquiring COVID-19 infection” and continuation of NIDDCP (National Iodine Deficiency Disorders Control Program) funded by NCDC, Delhi.
  • A study on Clinico-epidemiological profile of the COVID-19 patients admitted in tertiary care hospitals for treatment and management at Delhi.
  • Division works with Health & Wellness Centre, NCDC, Delhi for biochemical screening of risk assessment of NCDs like diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cardiac diseases, renal diseases and gout, etc.


Covid-19 response:

  • Participation in NCDC Public Health Teams.

Expert Group meetings/Workshop

  • Division conducted two-day Brain Storming Session on Strengthening the role of NCDC in implementation of NPPCF with Experts like Dr. Susheela AK, Executive Director, Fluorosis Research & Rural Development Foundation, Delhi, Dr. Pravesh Mehra, HOD, Dental Surgery Department, LHMC, New Delhi and Dr. Pradeep Saxena, Sr. CMO (SAG), NCDC, Delhi in September; 2021.


  • Iodine Deficiency Disorder Awareness Program
  • Division organised Iodine Deficiency Disorder Awareness Program in Delhi to spread awareness among the school children and teachers in October, 2019. Lectures were delivered on Iodine importance followed by painting competition in schools for creating awareness on Iodine consumption.
  • Salt samples were also collected from school children and teachers for assessing the iodine consumption.


  • Global Iodine Deficiency Disorders Prevention Day
  • Division organised Global Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) Day to create awareness on importance of iodine among the NCDC officials by organizing lectures on importance on the role of iodine and present scenario by experts/eminent persons at the National level in October, 2019.

  • Training on General Safety in Lab and Bio Medical Waste Management for MTS and Housekeeping contractual staff
  • Day to day functioning of First Aid Wellness Centre at NCDC.
